"Clothes belong in the closet, not people!" OUR PROJECT: To try eliminate Homo/Transphobia here in small town North Dakota, and provide help and support to anyone who needs it.
-This idea is a project that my friend Shelbe and I are doing. We want to help people in the LGBT community here in ND. Both of us come from a small town north of Grand Forks. We want to let people know that there IS someone here to support them. We are going to establish safe places -free of discrimination- for people to come if they need help. These places will have our group's symbol marked somewhere in them. There will, for sure, be places in Cavalier and Walhalla for people to go. [location are still being established]
-We also want to educate this community better about the topics on: Gender vs. Sex, Orientation, Identity, and any other thing related. There is no doubt, many, many people are uneducated on these topics, which very well could be one of the causes of decriminalization and homo/transphobia. By educating the public on these issues, people might be able to see and understand better.
-We want people and children to be comfertable in their own communities and towns. Both Shelbe and I would like to make it fair for a child/person to come out and not be afraid of the future discrimination, bullying, and hate that they could face.
-Lastly, we would like to start fundraising for the cause. The money would go to a much larger LGBT organization either in Grand Forks or Fargo.
